Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 15, Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo, with military honors. Celebration of Life will follow at the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Tama.


 

TOLEDO, Ohio -- Don Edward Wathan, 60, of Toledo, died Saturday, March 10, 2012, at his home under the care of Iowa Hospice surrounded by his family.

 Don was born on July 11, 1951, in Davenport, the son of Cecil and Grace (Petersen) Wathan.

He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1969-72 in Vietnam where he attained the rank of Sergeant.

 On Sept. 28, 1996, he married Gwen Foreman Anderson at the Rainbow Lake in Tama. He was an  American Legion member.

  Survivors include his wife, Gwen of Toledo; children, Jesse (Angie) Wathan, Wilton, Julie (Michael) McCabe, Pontiac, Ill., Gail (Brad) Meek, Toledo, Rick (Ashlee) Anderson, Puyallup, Wash., and Lesley (Josh) Youngbear, Tama; 13 grandchildren, Alexis, Josie, Kailee, Ethan, Jacob, Natalie, Logan, Justin, Jarret, Kyle, Olivia, Jaxton, and Ashlyn; his mother, Grace Wathan, Wilton; one sister, Ann (Dean) Nordeen of Florence, Ariz. and brother, Joe Wathan, Durant.

His father and stepson Sidney Anderson, preceded him in death.
