Janet D.  (Best) Sommers

JANESVILLE, Wisconsin -- Janet D. Sommers, 65, of Janesville, died on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center.

Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at the Schneider Apfel Schneider & Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, 1800 E. Racine St. Janesville. Rev. Jason Benjestorf will be officiating. Burial will take place in Milton Lawns Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at the funeral home.

Janet was born on October 2, 1949, in Muscatine, the daughter of Roy and Mary Miller Best. Janet married Gary Sommers on December 19, 1970, in Muscatine. They had been Janesville residents since 1994, moving from East Moline, Illinois.

Since suffering a debilitating stroke in 1996, Janet has enjoyed spending time with her family, especially the grandkids, doing word searches, watching TV, and drinking her beloved Sun Drop.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Sommers; two daughters, Jody Sommers and Tina Sommers; two sons, Gary Sommers Jr. and wife, Jeanine, and Ronald Sommers; her mother, Mary Best; two brothers, Fred Best and Darrel Best; a sister, Barbara Best; grandchildren: Brittany and Tyler Southwick, Thomas Widener, Tifne Widener, Shyanne Havenhill, Kayla Garthwaite, Nicholas Sommers, Eric Sommers, Zachary Sommers, Jacob Sommers, Jessica Sommers, Andrew Sommers, and Kara Hamilton; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Angela Best; father, Roy Best; mother-in-law, Dorothy Nichols; father-in-law, Ernest Nichols; nephew, Daniel Best; and grandparents, Mildred and Oscar Miller.
